Suzanne has worked as a teacher and curriculum leader within specialist autism provision for learners whose profiles were diverse and complex. Her role was to manage and develop curriculum and assessment procedures to ensure that teaching content and approaches were closely matched to learners’ individual needs.
Suzanne has also worked as a senior teacher within specialist provision for young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). She has been an Associate Lecturer at Bishop Grossteste University (Special Educational Needs and Inclusion).
In her school roles, Suzanne has been responsible for leading curriculum initiatives for pupils of a range of ability levels across all key stages. Her work with older learners has required her to identify appropriate qualifications pathways to ensure that learners are accredited for their achievements at a range of levels. She is an External Quality Assurer for ASDAN qualifications.
Suzanne has been involved in developing and delivering a range of Autism Education Trust (AET) materials and training. She was project leader for the Schools Autism Progression Framework commissioned to Autism Associates by the Autism Education Trust.
Other projects include the development of a bespoke curriculum for young people with complex needs within alternative provision and training and curriculum support for services in the area of PSHE and Sex and Relationships Education. Suzanne has also contributed to Autism Associates workshops and publications on Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) in the area of curriculum and assessment.
Suzanne currently works independently, as part of Autism Associates and in a Local Authority role where she works directly with pupils who may be experiencing anxiety-related non-attendance (ARNA).
